Lancet is currently inviting suitably qualified and unemployed candidates to apply for the Admin Clerk / Receptionist positions. This role is responsible for administering the receipt, capturing, and distribution of all samples, ensuring accurate information recording and efficient sample processing in line with service objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer sorting and distribution of samples following standard operating procedures to ensure correct and prioritized channelling of specimens to various laboratories/sites.
  • Process sample registration (“logging”) and handle queries according to set procedures.
  • Ensure dispatching of specimens for processing in accordance with prescribed procedures and monitor progress and filing of reports, including handling queries and report delivery within turnaround times.
  • Perform hospital rounds to distribute reports and collect submitted samples for processing as per relevant procedures.
  • Handle and refer administrative queries and customer complaints to ensure timely resolution.
  • Track progress of sample delivery by couriers to ensure specimens are received, processed, and results returned timeously and in compliance with procedures.
  • Investigate bottlenecks in pre-analytical laboratory processes and ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain basic housekeeping in the working area, including cleaning and preparation of equipment following procedures.
  • Monitor stock levels and order additional stock to ensure availability of required materials and delivery to doctors’ rooms.
  • Represent the organisation by applying customer care principles in the medical pathology field and interact professionally and ethically with medical professionals and staff.
  • Manage the reception area, provide relevant information, and direct clients to appropriate departments while offering excellent customer service.
  • Receive cash from patients and ensure banking of monies in line with standard operating procedures.
  • Report incidents, log customer complaints and problem solutions, read documents, and action tasks on the laboratory information management system in compliance with organisational policy.
  • Prepare and scan patient forms onto the laboratory scanning system (Oculus) and resolve scanning incompletes according to procedures.
  • Adhere to Lancet uniform protocols as set by standard operating procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 or relevant NQF Level 4 qualification
  • BSc Degree will be advantageous
  • 0 – 1 year relevant working experience
  • Ability to cope with nervous or distressed patients
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Confidentiality and sensitivity in handling patient information
