UBS: Equity Research Associate – Internships
UBS South Africa (Pty) Ltd is seeking Equity Research Interns for a 24-month fixed-term contract based in Johannesburg. This internship provides an opportunity to support and assist a team of highly rated analysts in gathering, processing, and analyzing industry and financial data, as well as framing investment recommendations for presentation to institutional investment clients.
The role involves varied tasks and extensive engagement with internal stakeholders, external clients, and companies under coverage.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Senior Analysts in providing investment recommendations based on modeling, proprietary data, valuation, and risk assessments.
- Conduct financial statement analysis and build and maintain financial models to evaluate historical information and generate projections.
- Analyze data to assess and describe current and long-term trends at both an industry and company level.
- Remain current on industry developments and market trends to help frame investment strategies.
- Conduct valuation analysis within an industry, sector, or asset class.
- Communicate with internal and external clients, as appropriate, to convey investment recommendations and ideas.
- Actively monitor assigned coverage and respond to significant events on a timely basis.
- Maintain research coverage by performing quarterly and more formalized periodic reviews of assigned researched companies.
- Write research reports and notes on companies for distribution to the UBS sales forces and institutional investment clients.
- Keep up-to-date on market news, and UBS Economists and Strategists’ views.
- Review business/trade publications, annual reports, financial filings, and other sources to gather/interpret data on companies in the sector.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s qualification with excellent university results.
- Post Graduate qualification (preferred but not mandatory).
- Mathematics or Finance background (preferred but not mandatory).
- Maximum 2 years relevant experience (preferred but not mandatory).
- Strong Microsoft Excel/Office skills.
- Track record of success in your academic life.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, energetic and committed, with proven team working ability.
- Independent thinker with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Adaptive with the ability to work well within a team.
