The Standard Bank Group Bursary Programme aims to promote academic excellence and develop the next generation of African talent and leaders.

Undergraduate Bursary

This bursary is aimed at students who are on track to successfully complete their first year and require funding for their second year of studies onwards. Applicants should demonstrate well-roundedness with strong academic results in their chosen qualifications.

Postgraduate Bursary

The Standard Bank Group Bursary offers full-cost bursaries to financially deserving and academically capable students wishing to pursue postgraduate studies in the funded fields.

Fields of Study

Bursaries will be offered in the following fields:

  • Agriculture
  • Commerce
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Science (Actuarial, Analytics, Business, Computer, Data, Information)
  • Statistics
  • Technology (Financial, Information)
  • Emerging fields of Behavioural Economics (Economics, Behavioural Finance, Sociology, Psychology, Neuroscience)

Selection Criteria

  • Applicants must have achieved an average of 65% or above in their latest examinations.
  • Applicants must be registered for full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies.
  • Applicants will undergo a formal assessment process, including psychometric evaluation and an interview.
  • Financial need will be considered in the application process.

The Bursary Will Cover the Following

  • University fees
  • Accommodation – either in a university residence or private accommodation (costs subject to limits explained to successful candidates upon provisional bursary allocation)
  • Meals – provided by the university or self-catering
  • Books and other study materials
  • A laptop computer
  • A monthly stipend to cover other living costs
  • Transport between home and campus four times a year at the cost of a bus ticket
