About the RSR Bursaries 2026

The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) is a public entity established in accordance with section 5 of the Railway Safety Act, 2024 (Act No. 30 of 2024). The RSR’s core mandate is to oversee and enforce safety performance across all railway operators in South Africa, including those from neighboring states whose rail operations extend into the country.

  • Human Resources Management
  • Media and Communications
  • Law
  • Financial Management

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen between the ages of 15 and 35 years.
  • Must not be funded or receiving financial assistance through a sponsorship or bursary scheme from any other institution or organisation.
  • Must be available for an interview when requested and be willing to sign a Bursary Agreement.
  • Must submit proof of registration/admission. Must be eligible to study for the specified qualification at the relevant institution of higher learning.
  • For first-year applicants, Grade 11 results or Grade 12 mid-term results reflecting a minimum average of 65% must be submitted.

Required Documents

  • Certified copy of admission/registration letter for the academic year you are applying for.
  • Certified copy of latest official Academic Record (if in tertiary institution) or Grade 11 results/Grade 12 mid-term results if currently in Grade 12.
  • Certified copy of Identification Document (ID).
  • Motivational letter.
  • Quotation of academic year’s tuition fees.
