Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA): Learnerships 2025 / 2026

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) is excited to announce the opening of applications for a twelve (12) month Learnership Programme aimed at unemployed candidates. This comprehensive programme combines practical experience with theoretical learning, all under the guidance of an accredited training provider, culminating in an SAQA accredited qualification.

The successful candidates will be placed in one of the following Nature Reserves, depending on their area of residence:

  • MTPA Lydenburg Office
  • Graskop Environmental Office
  • Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve
  • Songimvelo Nature Reserve
  • Barberton Nature Reserve
  • Mahushe Shongwe Nature Reserve
  • Mthethomusha Nature Reserve
  • Verloren Vallei Nature Reserve
  • Nooitgedacht Dam Nature Reserve
  • Mdala Nature Reserve
  • Mkhombo Nature Reserve
  • Mabusa Nature Reserve
  • SS Skosana Nature Reserve
  • Manyeleti Nature Reserve
  • Andover Nature Reserve
  • Ohrigstad Dam Nature Reserve

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the conservation of biodiversity within the reserves and conservation areas.
  • Monitor and remove invasive vegetation.
  • Support tasks related to fire management, rehabilitation, restoration, infrastructure maintenance, and monitoring of fauna and flora.
  • Engage in plant propagation and administrative duties.
  • Collect data to effectively meet conservation objectives.
  • Interact with community members, residents, business owners, and organizations to promote environmental education and awareness.
  • Complete assignments in a timely manner in relation to practical experience on the reserves.
  • Attend training and learner support sessions.

Requirements:

  • Must be an unemployed South African citizen.
  • Valid proof of residence is required.
  • Aged between 18 and 35 years.
  • Must reside in the Mpumalanga Province.
  • Possession of a Grade 12 certificate is mandatory.
  • Not currently studying at any tertiary institution.
  • Not registered for or participated in any other learnerships.
  • Genuine interest in outdoor work and practical tasks.
