The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), through its Community Development Department: Arts, Culture and Heritage, invites qualifying students residing in Johannesburg to apply for various Student Internship Opportunities for 2026. This programme supports work-based learning by providing practical, on-the-job experience critical for academic completion or experiential training post-qualification.

About the City of Johannesburg Internship Programme

Intern: Immovable Heritage (x2)

  • Department: Community Development

  • Location: Joburg Newtown Building, 2 Helen Joseph Street, Newtown
  • Duration: Up to 18 months
  • Minimum Requirements: Matric / Grade 12, National Diploma in Heritage Studies, Fine Art, Public Administration or related (NQF Level 6); No work experience; Johannesburg resident

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate stakeholder engagements for street and place naming
  • Maintain online heritage registers
  • Assist with heritage sites and public art management
  • Document heritage buildings, sites, and public artworks
  • Provide administrative support to the Immovable Heritage Unit
