Intern Raw Materials Merchandiser – The Foschini Group

Join The Foschini Group as an Intern Raw Materials Merchandiser and gain hands-on experience in sourcing, purchasing, and managing fabrics for retail. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about the fashion and textiles industry while contributing to a leading South African retail company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sourcing new fabrications
  • Purchasing and allocating fabric (local and import)
  • Ensuring fabric is purchased on time according to retail requirements
  • Issuing and following up on purchase orders
  • Managing administrative functions pertaining to the procurement process
  • Keeping up-to-date knowledge on the latest fabric developments and trends
  • Establishing and maintaining key relationships with fabric agents and mills
  • Negotiating best prices and delivery dates with suppliers
  • Managing stock fabric utilization in line with stock targets
  • Compiling and maintaining up-to-date stock books

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (preferably Design, Clothing Production, or Fabric Technology)

Skills

  • Fabric and trim knowledge
  • Knowledge of a PLM system (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of garment construction
