The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) invites young graduates to apply for two paid 24-month internship positions based at the Eastern Cape Provincial Office in East London. These internships offer valuable hands-on experience in public administration and electoral operations within a respected Chapter 9 constitutional institution. Candidates must be South African citizens aged 35 years or younger, with no prior work or internship experience in their field of study.

Available Internship Positions

1) Internship: Administration

Duration: 24 months (Fixed-term)
Stipend: R9,850.13 per month

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate travel, accommodation, meetings, and events
  • Assist with procurement processes and office support operations
  • Draft letters and memos; compile data and reports
  • Take minutes and maintain filing systems and records
  • Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence
  • Provide administrative support to the Provincial Electoral Officer (PEO)

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12 (or N3/NTC Level 4) plus Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Project Management, Administration, Public Management, or Office Administration
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new systems and travel when required

2) Internship: Electoral Operations

Key Responsibilities

  • Support provincial electoral operations and projects
  • Assist with logistics for election materials and equipment
  • Help coordinate voter registration, by-elections, and delimitation of voting stations
  • Monitor electoral projects and risk mitigation measures
  • Compile qualitative reports and assist with PPLC meetings
  • Provide general administrative support within Electoral Operations

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12 (or N3/NTC Level 4) plus Bachelor’s degree or 3-year National Diploma in Public Management, Public Administration, or Political Science
  • Computer literacy in MS Office
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel locally
  • Must be a registered voter with knowledge of the Eastern Cape
