Job Description
The Internship
ActionAid International (AAI) is seeking two motivated Finance Interns to support our Finance team. This internship offers valuable learning and development opportunities, providing practical experience and professional mentorship. Selected candidates will contribute to AAI’s mission of social justice, gender equality, and poverty eradication while gaining exposure to multi-country finance operations within a global federation environment.
Key Responsibilities
- GS Payments Support and Ledger Maintenance: Assist with multi-geographical payment processing, payroll support, recharge transactions, financial data capture, and month/year-end closure activities.
- Audit Support: Prepare audit files, support internal and external audits, respond to audit queries, track management letter points, and coordinate audit deliverables.
- Credit Card Management and Recharges Support: Process and reconcile credit card expenses, follow up with cardholders, and manage recharge transactions through the Finance recharge mailbox.
- Reconciliations: Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and clearance of outstanding items.
- Budgeting & Forecasting Support: Collect budget data, update templates, analyse expenditure trends, support report preparation, and assist in budget presentations.
- Other Responsibilities: Support federation planning, project accounting, finance-related queries, staff debtor reconciliations, and other duties assigned by the line manager.
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Recent graduate with a degree in Finance or Accounting, with basic knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS or local GAAP advantageous).
- Some exposure to finance or administrative work through coursework, volunteering, internships, or part-time roles. Completion of a work readiness programme is an advantage.
- Understanding of core financial processes including bookkeeping, reconciliations, budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, audit, payroll, procurement, and risk management.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with great attention to detail and effective organisation and prioritisation abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting systems, Power BI, or AI tools is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and with integrity.
