Dis-Chem: Dispensary Support Learnership Programme 2025
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is excited to announce opportunities for Dispensary Support Learners to join our dedicated team. The primary goal of this learnership is to train and employ learners who are capable of completing the learner basic pharmacist assistant course.
This Learnership will provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of key principles related to the pharmaceutical environment and dispensing practices, emphasizing quality on-the-job learning. Candidates will initially be employed in a Fixed Term position as Dispensary Support until they are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as learner basic assistants. Permanent employment will be offered only upon qualification as a basic pharmacist assistant.
Responsibilities:
- Sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
- Assist in compounding, manipulating, or preparing non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Help with unpacking and merchandising stock, as well as cleaning dispensary and OTC shelves under the supervision of the responsible pharmacist.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager.
- Learn to accurately interpret prescriptions and act professionally within legal requirements as per the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
- Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, while being aware of common dosages and important drug interactions.
- Confirm that all medications are checked for accuracy and signed off by a pharmacist.
- Assist in stock control, maintaining cleanliness, organization of shelves, and monitoring medicine expiry dates for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
- Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports and appointments as requested by the dispensary manager.
- Assist with call center scripts and patient service telephone calls.
- Provide health promotion information to individuals.
- Assist with scheme authorization for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.
- Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
- Receive dispensary stock in accordance with company SOPs.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics and either Physical Science or Life Science.
- Minimum average of 50% in the required subjects.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in English and a second language (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Strong time management, ability to work under pressure, and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, customer service focus, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork.
- Conflict management skills, accountability, professional conduct, and integrity.
- Basic computer and numerical skills.
