Job Description: Intern – GPS Success Coaches at University of the Free State

The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications for the position of Intern: GPS Success Coaches (contract appointment for 1 year) with seven available positions. This opportunity is within the Centre for Teaching and Learning under the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic at the Bloemfontein Campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle inbound and outbound communications (calls, messages, emails) via GPS@UFS channels to provide student support in the Graduation Positioning Support contact centre.
  • Support the GPS@UFS: Track Your Success project team in student tracking and communication initiatives.
  • Capture and compile student advising and interaction data using relevant databases and case management systems.
  • Distribute and collect data related to student tracking and support, assisting in qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis.
  • Contribute to research, conceptualisation, and refinement of student support services and resources.
  • Develop and deliver individual advising and tutoring support to students.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development aligned with GPS@UFS success coaching deliverables.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or B-Tech degree at NQF Level 7 (attach certified copy).
  • At least one year of relevant experience as a tutor, student assistant, teaching assistant, or participation in student leadership programmes.
  • Applicants must not currently be engaged in any learnership or internship programme or have previous formal work experience.
  • Willingness to sign a learnership/internship agreement with UFS and availability for a 1-year period.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Honours degree on NQF Level 8.
  • Knowledge of teaching, learning, and student support strategies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and strong verbal communication skills.
