Job Description

Merand Corbett & Associates is recruiting on behalf of an established independent school in Somerset West, South Africa, offering a unique blend of Montessori and internationally recognised education. They are currently seeking a motivated BEd or PGCE graduate to join their Elementary Montessori Internship Pathway from April 2026 to September 2027.

This internship programme provides aspiring educators with practical classroom experience and a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of authentic Montessori educational practices for learners aged 6 to 12 years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations of a Montessori Elementary classroom for children aged 6–12 years.
  • Observe, guide, and assist learners in Lower Elementary (ages 6–9) and Upper Elementary (ages 9–12) settings.
  • Prepare, organise, and maintain Montessori learning materials and classroom environments.
  • Encourage learner independence, curiosity, and critical thinking through child-led learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with experienced educators, benefiting from mentorship and guidance.
  • Support classroom activities, learning presentations, and learner supervision as needed.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development focused on Montessori educational methods.
  • Foster a respectful and supportive classroom culture and contribute positively to the wider school community.

Requirements

  • BEd (Foundation Phase or Intermediate Phase) or PGCE qualification.
  • Availability to commit to the internship programme from April 2026 to September 2027.
  • Previous experience working with children aged 6–12 years; Montessori experience is advantageous.
  • Valid SACE registration and police clearance certificate.
  • A strong interest in child-led learning approaches and Montessori principles.
