Internship Opportunity at Health Justice Initiative (HJI)

Background

The Health Justice Initiative (HJI) is a South African non-profit organisation dedicated to addressing systemic health inequities and injustices both in South Africa and beyond. Founded in mid-2020 in response to the massive inequalities in public health exposed and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, HJI focuses on the intersections between health justice, racial and gender inequity, and climate injustice, while continuing to work directly on issues of health policy.

Main Purpose of the Job

The main purpose of this role is to provide administrative support and assist with a wide range of activities and tasks related to HJI’s research and advocacy initiatives.

Location

This position is based in Cape Town with a hybrid working model.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

  • Persons between 18 and 35 years with an LLB Degree from a South African University.
  • Individuals who can commit to 6 months full-time for the programme.
  • Preference will be given to candidates based in the Western Cape.
  • Those with a strong interest in public health, medicine, economics, scientific research, policy development, activism, and community engagement.

The Successful Candidate Must:

  • Demonstrate time-management and deadline-oriented skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Show great attention to detail.
  • Be capable of drafting, proofreading, and preparing legal documents.
  • Be highly organised, efficient, and proactive.
  • Be a team player.
  • Exhibit analytical thinking with detailed research proficiencies.
  • Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Multi-task with a high degree of accuracy.

Remuneration

The successful candidate will receive a monthly stipend.
