About the SARB and the Programme
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) plays a crucial role in maintaining price and financial stability in South Africa. It regulates the financial sector, manages interest rates, oversees the banking system, and ensures economic well-being.
The (914) Graduate Development Programme is a one-year initiative aimed at developing well-rounded professionals in central banking. Selected graduates will gain exposure to various SARB departments and work on real-world projects.
What to Expect
- Departmental Exposure: Graduates will work at SARB’s Head Office, contributing to projects in different areas of central banking.
- Learning & Development: Participants will attend SARB Academy interventions, covering topics such as monetary policy, financial stability, currency management, and financial markets.
- Professional Growth: Training in assertive communication, public speaking, PowerPoint presentations, report writing, teamwork, and personal excellence.
After the First Year
Successful graduates may be offered permanent positions based on:

- Interest in financial services, policy-making, and banking supervision.
- Strong academic and workplace performance.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
Eligibility Criteria
- South African citizen with an Honours degree (NQF 8) in one of the following fields:
- Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Research, Policy Analysis, Public Finance
- Accounting, Auditing, Law
- Financial Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Investment Management
- Mathematics, Quantitative Analysis, Business Analysis, Risk Management
- Actuarial Science, Fintech, IT, Digital Technology
- Minimum 65% average in the final year.
- Strong interest in financial services and policy-making.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for learning and innovation.
